Domain Registration in Bangladesh: 8 Best Registrars and .bd Prices

If you are buying a domain in Bangladesh, two things changed this year that most guides have not caught up with.

BTCL cut .bd domain prices by 36% in January 2026. A .com.bd now costs ৳700 to register instead of ৳1,100. And second-level .bd domains (yourname.bd, without the .com) are open to everyone, not just the third-level format.

This guide covers both sides: the international extensions (.com, .net, .org) you buy from a commercial registrar, and the .bd extensions that only BTCL controls. They work differently, cost differently, and need different paperwork.

What a domain actually costs in Bangladesh

Two separate price systems apply, and mixing them up is the most common mistake.

.bd extensions: BTCL sets the price

BTCL is the national registry for .bd and .বাংলা. Nobody else sets these prices. In a press statement issued in Dhaka on 11 January 2026, BTCL announced a reduction in registration and renewal fees for two categories of .bd domain names, applying to third-level and second-level .bd domains with names longer than two characters, with fees for these categories reduced by 36 percent.

These are per domain per year. VAT applies at the prescribed rate, and registrations are governed by existing BTRC regulations along with tariff decisions approved by BTCL.

Two things worth noting. Renewal costs more than registration, which is the opposite of how international registrars work. And if you buy .bd through a reseller instead of BTCL directly, you pay the BTCL fee plus the reseller’s service charge, so expect a higher number.

International extensions: each registrar sets its own price

For .com, .net, .org, .xyz and the rest, prices vary by registrar and change with promotions. Three rules will save you money:

Check the renewal price, not the first-year price. A ৳119 first-year offer that renews at ৳1,400 is more expensive over three years than a ৳900 domain that renews at ৳950. The headline number is a marketing number.

Check which extension the advertised price applies to. “Domains from ৳119” almost always means .xyz or .top, never .com. This is the single biggest source of confusion in Bangladeshi domain pricing.

Check the transfer-out policy. A domain you cannot move is a domain you do not really control.

Why accreditation matters. Only ICANN-accredited registrars have direct access to the gTLD registries. Everyone else is a reseller sitting on top of somebody else’s accreditation, usually a foreign one. In practice that affects who actually controls your domain record, how fast a transfer clears, and what happens to your domain if the company you bought from shuts down. Being a reseller is not disqualifying, most Bangladeshi providers are resellers and many are excellent, but it is worth knowing which is which and nobody else publishes this.

1. ExonHost

Best for: most people registering a .com

ExonHost is operated by Purple IT Ltd, a Bangladeshi company based in New DOHS Mohakhali, Dhaka. Purple IT Ltd holds ICANN accreditation under IANA ID 3861, which makes it the only accredited registrar among the commercial providers on this list. Everyone else resells.

That matters more than it sounds. When you register through ExonHost, your domain sits with an accredited registrar rather than two layers deep in a reseller chain. Transfers, EPP codes and registrant changes go through fewer hands.

BTCL is not a company competing for your business. It is the national registry, operating .bd on behalf of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology. Every .com.bd in existence ultimately comes from BTCL, whether you buy direct or through a reseller.

Going direct through the portal at bdia.btcl.com.bd gets you the lowest possible price, since you skip the reseller margin. The trade-off is process. You upload documents, wait for manual verification, and deal with a government workflow rather than an instant checkout.

Which documents depends on what you are registering. A business site needs a Bangladeshi trade licence plus an NID copy, and the domain name has to match the trade licence name. A personal blog can use .info.bd with an NID scan. Educational institutions need a forwarding letter and renewal permission copy. Government bodies need a forwarding letter on official letterhead.

Since January 2026 second-level registration is open, so you can register yourbrand.bd rather than only yourbrand.com.bd. Short names of two characters or fewer are priced separately and were not part of the price cut.

Worth knowing: XeonBD describes itself as following ICANN rules rather than holding ICANN accreditation. It operates as a reseller.

6. Web Host BD

Best for: .com.bd registration with hands-on support

Operating since 2012, Web Host BD is a BTCL reseller, which means it can process .com.bd, .net.bd and .org.bd applications alongside international extensions.

Pricing runs above the market average. What you are paying for is the support layer on BTCL applications, which is a legitimate service given how much paperwork the .bd process involves. If price is your only criterion, register .bd directly with BTCL instead.

How to register a .com.bd or .bd domain

1. Create a BTCL profile. Go to bdia.btcl.com.bd and register an account.
2. Search your name. Check availability and pick your category: .com.bd for business, .net.bd, .org.bd, .edu.bd, .ac.bd, .info.bd for personal, or a second-level .bd.
3. Prepare your documents. Business needs a trade licence plus NID, and the domain must reasonably match the licence name. Personal .info.bd needs an NID scan. Educational and government categories need forwarding letters.
4. Submit the application. Upload documents and wait for BTCL to verify.

Neither is universally better. Pick based on who you are trying to reach.

Choose .com if you have any international ambition, want instant registration without paperwork, or want the domain to be easy to sell later. It costs less to renew and takes minutes rather than days.

Choose .com.bd or .bd if your business is Bangladesh-only and local trust matters, particularly for institutional, financial or government-facing work. A .com.bd signals a registered Bangladeshi business, because BTCL verified your trade licence to issue it. That verification is the actual value.

Many businesses register both and redirect one to the other. At ৳700 for a .com.bd, that is now a reasonable defensive move.

What to check before you buy

The renewal price. Ask for it explicitly if it is not published. First-year discounts are standard and renewal is where the margin lives.

Whether privacy protection is free. Some registrars include it, others charge annually. Without it, your name, address and phone number sit in public WHOIS.

Who the registrar of record is. Run a WHOIS lookup on any domain the company already manages. If your provider is a reseller, the accredited registrar behind them is who really holds your domain.

Transfer policy. ICANN rules lock new domains for 60 days after registration. Beyond that, a provider that makes transfers difficult is a provider to avoid.
